Parent and child foster care

We firmly believe that families should be kept together as much as possible. And often the only way to achieve this is with the help of parent and child foster carers. This type of care usually involves looking after young people under the age of 18 and their babies. But we may also need you to look after older parents with complex needs who need a helping hand with parenting.

Why should I consider parent and child fostering?

Any new parent will tell you just how tough it can be having children. But becoming a parent at the age of 18 or under can be completely overwhelming. So caring for a parent and child can be hugely rewarding as you are providing young people with the skills, support and confidence to be able to look after their own children and become good parents themselves.

This type of foster care focuses on the best outcome for both parent and child and we always want to do as much as possible to keep the family together. But sometimes we need to assess their ability to care for their child, and we would need to decide whether the baby can stay with the parent.

Of course, this is not something we expect you to do alone. So we will offer specialist parent and child training and qualifications to help you feel equipped to handle all situations. That way we can all work towards making a positive impact on a young parent and their baby’s lives.
