Emma's Racing for Life

28-05-2012

Fostering Solutions is very proud to support Social Worker, Emma Dowinton and her sister, Kate Bone, as they undertake a major challenge in the memory of their late mum, Tonia Oldacre.

Ten years ago, Tonia who was Assistant Head Teacher at John Hanson Community School in Andover, Hampshire, tragically lost her life to breast cancer.

To mark the tenth anniversary and raise much needed funds for the charity Cancer Research UK, Emma and Kate decided to do not one Race for Life, but ten!

After training hard and recruiting lots of team members along the way, including their husbands, their dad, and friends and family, the eleven lady runners of 'Team Tonia', undertook the first race in Hyde Park on 27th May; the hottest day of the year to date!

After the event, Emma spoke of her delight at the support they received, "There was no shade from the intense sunshine, but the cheers from other runners, the crowds and from an elderly race marshall who distracted us by dancing to Lady Gaga as we ran past, made it a really memorable occasion and the atmosphere was brilliant! Now, it's back to training for the next race in Swindon!".

20th June - Basingstoke
24th June - Poole
1st July - Salisbury
8th July - Southampton
15th July - Oxford
22nd July - Portsmouth
