Meeting The 5 Outcomes

Fostering Solutions works alongside local authorities to achieve positive outcomes in the areas specified in Every Child Matters and the principles of the Scottish Standards.

Be Safe

Comprehensive child protection policy - Safe from harm, neglect and sexual exploitation.

Corporal punishment will not be used in any circumstances.

Children’s complaint procedure allows children to contact Fostering Solutions if they have any concerns.

Household safe caring policies and individual policies for each child are drawn up as well as annual risk assessments and health and safety inspections on foster carers homes.

Stability: 42% of children living with Fostering Solutions carers across our regions have been in placement of for over 12 months.

Foster carers trained in Health and Safety, First Aid and child protection training.

Fostering Solutions employ a qualified Health and Safety Manager to provide guidance and to make sure that Health and Safety regulations are adhered to and that policies and procedures are in place.

Thorough and careful checks take place during the assessment process to ensure that applicants are suitable.

24 hour, 7 days a week support from our qualified social workers

Be Healthy

Children and Foster Carers are encouraged to exercise, to eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day and are made aware of the harm caused by smoking, alcohol and drugs through articles in the Young Person’s and Foster Carer’s newsletters distributed to all households.

In the Foster Carers Handbook, carers are encouraged to provide healthy choices for the children in placement. Fostering Solutions are also written Health and Safety and smoking policies.

Disabled children and young people with long term health conditions receive appropriate support from professionals and services.

All children are registered with a GP and dentist.

Enjoy and Achieve

By working closely alongside local authority teams, we have found that it is possible to achieve positive outcomes for the children in placement.

Make a positive contribution

All children (foster children and birth children) are invited to contribute to their carers Annual Review.

Children are given a Guidebook that explains how they can get in contact with Fostering Solutions if they have a problem or complaint. They are encouraged to have their say.

Achieve Economic Well Being

Children helped to contribute to reviews.

Encouraged to develop and importance of education is emphasised- Foster carers support the children in placement by going into school.

An example from one of our regions: ALL children placed with Fostering Solutions by Manchester Social Services have PEP plans in place and are working towards better educational outcomes.

The children and young person’s guidebooks encourage pocket money to be saved. Foster Carers enable their placements to reach independence by helping them, where appropriate, to open bank accounts.
