Start a career in social work

To become a social worker you will need an Honours degree in Social Work and be registered on the social care register.

The role of a social worker involves forming partnerships with people and supporting them in finding solutions to the problems they face which will often involve liaison with other professionals such as teachers, police, doctors and nurses.

Further information about a career in social work can be found at www.socialworkcareers.co.uk

Placements

Practice learning opportunities are available for students working towards a social work qualification to assist in developing their professional practice and to help equip them with the necessary skills and abilities to pursue a career in social work.

If you are studying for your social work degree or equivalent social work qualification, why not talk to your tutors about a placement with Fostering Solutions.

How does fostering differ from adoption?

For a variety of reasons, some children and young people are unable to live with their own parents or family. Foster carers provide these children and young people with safe and supportive homes to enable them to thrive.

When legal ties with the birth family are severed and parental rights and responsibilities are given to the new adoptive family. The adopted child or young person becomes a full member of your family; they take your surname and assume the same rights and privileges as if they had been born to you.
