Foster Care and Adoption

Fostering Solutions is one of the UK’s fastest growing Independent Foster Care Agencies.

We recruit, train and support our foster carers to make a positive difference to the lives of the children and young people in their care.

What is foster care?

For a variety of reasons, some children and young people are unable to live with their own parents or family.  Foster carers provide these children and young people with safe and supportive homes to enable them to thrive.

Foster care can be:

  • Emergency - this is with little warning with the duration of the placement(s) undecided
  • Short Term - this can be anything from a few days to a few months or longer
  • Long Term / Permanency - this is planned very carefully with the focus on the child or young person's long term future
  • Respite - this is usually when a child or young person's full time foster care requests a weekend or holiday break.  The child or young person could be with you for a weekend or a couple of weeks
  • Pre-adoption - a child or young person will remain in foster care whilst waiting to be adopted
  • Bridging - adoptive parents have been found and the child or young person remains in foster care until they move to their adoptive parents
  • Remand - a child or young person is placed in foster care as an alternative to being placed in custody.

Adoption is:

When legal ties with the birth family are severed and parental rights and responsibilities are given to the new adoptive family. The adopted child or young person becomes a full member of your family; they take your surname and assume the same rights and privileges as if they had been born to you.

Although Fostering Solutions is not an adoption agency, some of our foster carers have adopted children and young people initially placed with them as foster children.
