London to Brighton bike ride

Thursday 24 March 2016

NFA joined over 1000 cyclists to take part in the London to Brighton bike ride in aid our our nominated charity – Place2Be. The magnificent seven were Mark Garratt (Team Captain), Ian Cameron, Trish Jarrett, Luisa Halloran, David Rimmer, Lilli Woodthorpe and Iain Owens.

The weather was excellent to start with heading out of London in bright early morning sunshine, however darker skies were soon upon us, as were a few un-expectantly steep hills!! A couple of long gradual climbs (some fellow competitors where overheard comparing them to the Pyrenees) brought us out into the Surrey countryside where we stopped off for a nice buffet lunch (all except for Trish who decided she didn’t need food and carried on with just a top up of orange juice!). Surrey soon became Sussex and despite a road closure due for an accident, the route was fairly quiet well signposted. The notoriously difficult 830ft Ditchling Beacon proved a difficult challenge, especially coming only 8 miles from the end, however with some serious pedal power, all reached the top in one piece (just).

The team all arrived in Brighton to loud cheers from the Place2Be staff somewhat akin to the Champs Elise, and greeted us with much needed food and drink. A fantastic day was had by all and we look forward to doing something even bigger in 2014….

NFA would like to thank all who have sponsored the team, helping them achieve over £2500! If you would still like to donate, you can do by going to the following page:
